Preparations & Farewells

Over the last week we have been busily preparing ourselves for the next 6 months. Picking up medications, getting an international drivers licence, tying off loose ends, organising visas and picking up more meds.

We are finally starting to feel ready and organised as the reality of the length and impending circumstances hits us. Nathan has said his farewells to everyone and Rachael has started hers. For Nathan personally it has been quite a big couple of weeks with the end of school, his Dad retiring, a friend getting engaged, another friend losing a family member, another discovering they are pregnant as well as his birthday. The emotional levels are not too high but we both are getting more and more excited as we get closer to next year.

For those who don't know, we are going to the Bamboo School, run by Momo Kat on the Thai/Burma border (http://www.bambooschool.org/) for 6 months starting in early January. We will be doing a mixture of teaching, assistant dean work, nursing, building and whatever needs doing on the day.

We will miss home but appreciate all the kind and encouraging words you have given us and am glad we spent last night with many of you together one last time.

Now, as the Joker says...

Here we go...
